Customer Review: Softer Claws For Your Cat If You Can Keep Them On
The Soft Paws / Soft Claws for Cats get rave reviews all over the Internet. We have a Bengal kitten/cat, roughly 11 months old, which has his front claws removed but still has his rear claws. He likes to jump up onto your shoulders and sometimes overshoots and therefore tries to dig in with his rear nails. I’m sure you can imagine how painful this is for me and my family members. Our kitty also sometimes likes to kick his rear feet, like a bunny rabbit, while he is playing. Those rear nails are sharp as razor blades and slice right through human skin like butter. We called our local vet to see if declawing the rear paws was advisable. Keep in mind, this is an indoor-only cat who is never allowed outdoors. Also, my wife provides daycare service in our home, so we can’t risk having having the children in her care scratched all up by our playful kitten. The vet told us that removing the rear claws may cause the cat to become a bitter; which is especially common with Bengals. The vet then recommended the Soft Claws product to us, so we eagerly ordered up a couple of packs from Amazon. We are on the second week of using this product. First of all I have to say that this product is a wonderful idea but isn’t quite as perfect as people have claimed. We purchased the clear covers, which I highly recommend as it would probably be very hard to visualize how much glue you were squeezing into a colored nail cover. Our kitten squirmed a bit but soon settled down and allowed us to install all of the covers on his rear nails. The problem is, several of the nail covers we received in our kits were slightly different in size and a few of them didn’t even have the slits cut in them, so we had to throw several of the covers away. Within the first 24 hours our kitten had chewed/pulled off 5 of the 8 nail covers. We installed new covers right away but 3 more were missing within the next 24 hours. Two weeks later we have yet to keep all 8 of the nail covers on our kitten. The size of the covers are correct, and we have tried using more glue to get them to adhere better. They just don’t seem to be able to withstand the chewing and tugging that our cat subjects them to. We have already gone through an entire kit and are well on our way through the second. We had to throw away 5 of the nail covers in the second kit as well, as they were defective and not usable. Overall I cannot blame the manufacturer for the fact that our cat continues to chew off the covers; although a better adhesive might help. However, there is no excuse for the many defective covers that were included in the two kits we received. I certainly think this product is a GREAT idea; a terrific and humane alternative to declawing a kitten or cat. But with the poor quality control we have experienced with the kits we received, it is very hard for us to recommend these to others. I am glad that many other people have had pleasing results with this product. We are going to order two more kits soon, and hopefully we will receive better results this time around.

I have a long-haired cat that doesn’t like to be bothered. I’ve tried brushes, combs, and slickers, and this is the ONLY thing she will half-way tolerate me combing her with. The Zoom Groom does a great job of removing fur. None of the other tools I’ve tried have removed nearly as much fur. I get tons of undercoat fur off of my cat using this brush. While the brush holds a lot of it there’s still plenty of fur that flies everywhere. So, I suggest you wear something that you plan to change out of when you brush your cat.

I am an avid fan of Sea Monkeys and am always excited to see the latest accessories designed by the great Sea Monkey Overlords. I was thrilled about the release of the City Mini World - it’s just like a real city, only smaller, and instead of people, there are Sea Monkeys, and instead of air, there’s water. But the similarities are uncanny. My Sea Monkeys were just as excited as I was, so when I released them into their new metropolitan digs, I expected to see nothing but FUN. But, boy was I wrong! Turns out that the Sea Monkey Overlords were a little too thorough in recreating city life in a miniature form. Here are my issues: 1. There is only one mini Sea Monkey Starbucks in the entire mini city, which leads to long lines, stressed out barista-monkeys, and frequent complains about line-jumpers and lack of seating. Furthermore, the Sea Monkey Overlords should have known better that caffeine and Sea Monkeys do not mix! Those little freaks are hyper enough with just water in their systems…add a venti mini caramel macchiato and they are freaking WIRED! 2. Sea Monkeys are notoriously bad drivers due to their limited cognitive functioning and motor skills. And yet, they are given cars! Due to the lack of a mini DMV, I don’t even think the Sea Monkeys have bothered with any sort of drivers ed or licensing program. And recent statistics show that 75% of Sea Monkey drivers are uninsured! The Sea Monkey Mini City is plagued with accidents caused by negligent drivers, which is taxing both the mini hospital system AND the mini court system. Take the cars away! 3. Rising rent prices and overcrowding have also made the living situation for Sea Monkeys in the City difficult. Only about a third of all Sea Monkeys in my mini city can afford decent apartments, while the rest are reduced to living from their cars or out on the streets. Those lucky enough to find an apartment usually have to cramp an entire family of 6-8 Sea Monkeys into an apartment designed for 1 or 2. 4. Crime rates in the mini city are also out of control. 3 out of 5 Sea Monkeys in my mini city have been the victim of pickpockets or muggers. Because all Sea Monkeys look alike, it is nearly impossible to find and prosecute assailants. You try picking one out of a lineup! 5. Education is a huge problem in the mini city. Sea Monkeys are so busy waiting in line for a decent cup of coffee, securing a place to live, and dealing with traffic that they invest nearly no time in ensuring that their children are receiving a proper education. 99.9% of all adult Sea Monkeys who grew up in the mini city cannot read above a 2nd grade level, and none can do basic arithmetic. When asked to find the USA on a map, none of them could point it out. Is this the kind of future we want for our Sea Monkeys?
Customer Review: More fun than a barrel full of sea monkeys!!
Let me start off by saying that when my girlfriend came home from Target with this sea monkey kit, I thought she’d lost her mind. But since the “City Mini World” was on sale for $2, I figured it was worth a shot. Fortunately, I read the reviews here and the FAQ at http://www.sea-monkeys.com, and got some valuable pointers. The first thing I did was remove all the buildings, because I’d read that sometimes the sea monkeys get stuck between them and the side of the tank. Second, I went to an aquarium store and got a horizontal stick-on thermometer (cost: $1.50), and an Elite battery powered air pump (it uses 2 size D batteries, not included), that came with the tubing and the air stone (cost: around $9.00). I then drilled one of the evaporation holes to make it big enough so that the tubing could snugly fit through. Once the tubing was through the hole, I attached the air stone inside the tank. This allows me to aerate the tank 5-6 times a day without taking the lid off. I followed the directions as far as treating the water (we used bottled water) for 24 hours. Then I put in the eggs, stirred the water, aerated the tank 5-6 times a day, and waited. As far as the lighting goes, I have the tank on a computer desk about 3 feet in front of a window with mini-blinds. I don’t know if it’s a Northern window or not. It gets sun in the morning and part of the afternoon. There’s also a little clip-on desk light that I use to keep the temperature around 78 degrees F. The light has a goose neck, so I can shine it towards the tank, or away from it, giving a lot of control via a very simple solution. We’ve had the kit for around 10 days, and we did see live babies after the first day or two. Now, I’d say there are about 10-15 adults (about 1/4″ long) and about 5 babies, +/- (they move so fast, it’s hard to get a completely accurate head count.) The feeding instructions aren’t that clear. The packet of food says feed every 2 days. The site says feed once a week, unless you have a “big colony”, then feed more often. I also read somewhere else to feed them every 5 days. I think once or twice a week feedings are probably about right. I can honestly say that I had NO expectations for these sea monkeys whatsoever. I have had 50 gal “real” fresh water aquariums, along with beta fish. All I can say is this: these things are COOL. The setup is minimum; and the fun factor is maximum. They grow pretty quickly, and are almost in constant motion. They have real billowy fins, or whatever it is that propels them. They also poop a lot (the long strings trailing behind them are poop, and are sometimes twice as long as their bodies). Also, because of the varying hatching times of the eggs, tiny new babies suddenly appear, seemingly out of nowhere. I don’t think I had this much fun with my full 50 gal aquariums. These little critters are just great. They are low maintenance, and low anxiety (i.e. no worrying if the tank “cycled”, no testing the H20 for ammonia, nitrites, nitrates, ph, etc. No need to vacuum the gravel, do water changes, etc.). The square base of the tank is very stable, and the lid fits securely. There are just no negatives at all, except that the City Mini World does not come with an aerating device. But the setup with the battery operated pump works like a charm. It’s not necessary to run the pump all the time; just turn it on about 5-6 times a day, and that does the trick. The water so far is pretty clear, although it’s normal and healthy for a reasonable amount of algae to develop. I can hardly wait til the adults reproduce, and the colony grows.

Clumping: 3 stars Clumps, but either crumbles during scooping or gets stuck to the litter pan or liner. Odor control: 3 stars Urine odor control is fair; Odor control is not immediate when the cats do their other business though. The control effect lasts only about a week with two cats (even though I scoop at least twice a day), then I have to change out the litter completely. Upside though is that there is no heavy perfume/fragrance in this product - just smells like fresh pine when the bags is first opened. Tracking control: 1 star The fine sawdust like litter sticks to the cats’ paws and fur. I’m finding litter everywhere even though the cats walk over two mats after getting out of the litter box. Dust control: 3 stars The product doesn’t claim it’s dust free; There is no dust cloud like you see with clay or some crystal litters when poured. However, if you have sensitive skin, the fine sawdust that might become airborne and come in contact with you while pouring might irritate your skin. I notice my skin itching after I pour the litter into the pan. Fortunately in my case the itching goes away right after I wash the skin with soap and water. I can see how this product might not be suitable for people with certain allergies. Overall rating: 2.5, but had to round up to 3 stars For those who have tried the pine pellets and didn’t like how the pellets break down after a while will not like this version of the pine litter. On the other hand, if tracking is not an issue for you and you don’t have sensitive skin, this litter offers a better alternative to clay litters for you and your cats’ respiratory wellness. I, however, will be continuing my search for that illusive “perfect” litter.

I have been trying to switch my cats to the original feline pine litter (the pellets). My one cat has upper respiratory problems and I have been trying to find a natural litter that works well for him. He hasn’t taken to the pellets right off the bat so I bought this litter to help switch him over. This litter is terrible! Yes it smells nice like the original feline pine. It doesn’t clump very well. It is too fine and to light/soft in texture. It clings to the cats very easily. I also have a large cat and because of the lightness of the litter when exiting the box yesturday he stepped on the edge and he managed to tip over the litter box!!! On himself!! The other reviewer also mentioned loose stools. I have been trying to figure out why both of my cats have been having loose stools lately? This may be the culprit. I cannot rave enough about the original feline pine though! If your cat can get used to the pellets it is absolutely wonderful litter!!!!

I bought this because my younger cat has gingivitis. My vet recommended brushing his teeth (in which I laughed) and a special food. When the food didn’t work, I had to go to plan B…brushing his teeth. To my surprise he actually doesn’t mind it(as long as I don’t take too long). The kit comes with a little cat toothbrush which is very easy to use. It also comes with a plastic brush that goes over one of your fingers, but my cat doesn’t like it when I use that one. He loves the flavor of the toothpaste, and I agree with another reviewer that the toothpaste doesn’t smell at all. I would recommend this kit. I actually ended up buying a second kit for my other cat.

My year old cat had very inflamed gums and the vet recommended (among other things)brushing his teeth. This kit has a cat sized toothbrush, a finger sleeve toothbrush, and a tube of seafood flavor toothpaste. Max loves the flavor and puts up with the toothbrushing sessions, as long as they don’t last too long. I recommend this product. The only drawback is the toothpaste tube is the metal type that makes it difficult to regulate the flow.

Easy to assemble/install, looks very nice. One downside; the hollow pipes may bend if you force them too hard. The local birds seem to prefer a puddle in my front yard, unfortunately, but I’m sure I’ll find another use for this–perhaps as a plant hanger.
