Rescuing Sprite: A Dog Lover’s Story of Joy and Anguish
Although Mark Levin is known as a constitutional lawyer and a nationally syndicated broadcaster, he is, first and foremost, a dog lover. In 1998, he and his family welcomed a half-Border Collie/half-Cocker Spaniel they named Pepsi into their lives. Six years later, his wife and son persuaded him to adopt a dog from the local shelter, a Spaniel mix. It turned out he was older than originally thought, and he was the most beautiful dog they’d ever seen. They named him Sprite. Their lives would never be the same.

Sprite and Pepsi became fast friends. They did everything together, from rummaging through the trash to loudly greeting the deliveryman. And the Levin family fell in love with him — with his gentle nature, beautiful face and soft, huggable fur. But on Halloween night, shortly after joining their family, Sprite suddenly collapsed and was rushed to the animal hospital. It was the first of many such visits, and the start of a long journey for the Levin family, filled with much joy and anguish.

During the next two years, Sprite and Pepsi were inseparable. And Sprite’s bond with the Levin family deepened. Friends, neighbors, and even Mark’s radio audience came to know and love Sprite. As Mark’s daughter turned eighteen and graduated from high school and Mark’s son turned fifteen, Sprite’s health deteriorated — even as his spirits remained high and his beauty and grace continued to inspire. Comfort came from family, fans, and friends, and between Thanksgiving and Christmas 2006, the Levin family said their emotional final goodbye. Crushed and consumed with grief, Mark turned to family, friends, and fans for help.

But new hope came when the Levins least expected it.

Rescuing Sprite is a stunningly intimate look at the love between a family and a dog, one that movingly shows, in Mark Levin’s words, that “in the end, we humans are the lucky ones.”

The author will donate a portion of his proceeds from the sale of this book to animal shelters.

It is obvious that Mr. Levin loved this dog. It is such a sad and at the same time uplifting story. I couldn’t read it straight through - too many tears but each time I set it down I hugged and kissed my 3 dogs and told them how much I loved them. It is such a touching story, heartfelt and sincere. You can feel his pain and agony as he shares his story with his reader. Excellent

Customer Review: My dog loves this!
I bought this toy for my dog along with the pink poodle. She is a red toy poodle and HARDLY Plays with anything I bought both of these toys at our local store got the matching thread took out the beans and added stuffing. I gave it to my dog. My dog has NEVER played in her ENTIRE LIFE I started wiggling it in her face she took the toy and started running with it. These are great for dogs that do not play don’t give it to a dog who likes to rip and chew I recommend supervision. But this is a great product:)

I was planning on buying the 8″ model for my 3 year old Shepherd/Lab mix. Then I saw the 10″ version for only a dollar more and decided to go for it. (Couldn’t pass up a bargain!)

I ordered it one day and it arrived the next! I don’t know how that was possible but it happened. When I opened the carton and saw the size of this thing I thought I had made a big mistake in getting the 10″ size. I couldn’t imagine how the dog could get his mouth around this huge ball. Well, it’s been a week now since it arrived and I am happy to report that T.J. (Toby Junior) loves playing with it and has figured out the bounces and way to grab it and would probably want to sleep with it if I let him bring it into the house. His favorite way to catch it is to grab the ball on a full “gallup” after only one bounce. If this was an event in the dog olympics I bet that T.J. would win the gold! The ball is extremely well made, will not deflate, as is advertised, and we are both getting a good workout throwing and retrieving it. I can’t recommend this ball more highly if you have a large mouthed dog and a large backyard. I’m sure it’s fine for horses too!!

Right now, there are four official English-language versions of Les Miserables: the Original London Cast Recording, the Original Broadway Cast Recording, the Complete Symphonic Recording, and the 10th Anniversary Concert Recording. Les Mis’ addicts are best served by purchasing all recordings, as they showcase different stages (as in the OLC and the OBC) of the development of this mega-musical, as well as the interesting variations in presentation and performances by the different casts and orchestras. If you’re the average musical-theater listener who can’t afford to buy all available English-language recordings, however, my advice would be to get the CSR (due to the fact that it’s “complete”) and the TAC recording (due to the fact that performer- and performance-wise, it’s leaps and bounds better than all of the other recordings). You deserve no less.

I can’t believe all the negative comments about Gary Morris. He is so much better in the role than Colm Wilkinson. I’ve seen Gary perform the part three times and there is NO better Jean ValJean (seen the play 14 times). It’s an international cast and some of the accents do take time getting used to. But the power of the music supercedes it all. Listen with your heart people. It’s so incredible.

I love documentary programming like Discovery Channel and being from the Mid-West I’ve never understood how fishermen (not the factory trawlers)catch what we eat. This video shows the nuts and bolts of how this is done and includes great underwater and historical footage. I felt like I was there (except for the sea sickness of course.) I run a small farm and the plight of the New England fishermen is very similar to what we went through in the eighties to save our way of life. This is very educational and just the right length for a classroom.

While it is a Baby Genius CD it in no way compares with Favorite Nursery Rhymes and Favorite Children Songs which is the best, after getting all the Baby Genius CD’s I would save my money on this one as it is not able to really keep their attention for very long, not much in the way of children interaction like some of the other’s, maybe ok for younger children, our grand daughter was 18 months when she got it and she watched it the first time and didn’t make it through the entire CD before she was bored with it.

Would be much better if after each segment the screen didn’t cut to black. I know this is so that you can decide if the next segment will be too long for the baby to pay attention, but on DVD’s you could just select a section. There is no menu to do that with though. My baby doesn’t really like it because everytime she gets interested, the section ends, cuts to black and she looses interest. She does like the music CD that came with it though.

I ordered the Sea Monkeys on Mars kit for my office, and I absolutely love it. I have had my tank up for about a month, and I have several adults swimming around. I really like the look of this tank. It’s fun to watch them swim around the arches and the spaceship. I have a million bubble air pump, and I use it on the days when I am at work. If you only have the aqua leash, you can attach a small air stone (from the aquarium store) to the end of it to make little bubbles. Put it in the water, push the air out, pull the aqua leash out of the water, get more air, put it back in the water, etc… I feed them about once a week. The instructions that come with the kit are not the best. Go to www.sea-monkeys.com for better instructions. There is also a forum at www.seamonkeymania.com that is very helpful if you have questions.

This DVD is fun to watch but don’t count on being able to listen to the music or the sound effects for more than 2 minutes. The sounds effects are obnoxious and fake sounding and the music is terrible. Also, the quality is not that great … I was expecting a much sharper picture for something shot in HD.

I have watched several dog training DVDs and this clearly falls dead last. The video bears little connection to the narrative so you might as well consider it a book on tape. Even then, it will not provide you much practical information on how to train your dog. With the plethora of other options out there, even if they are a bit more expensive, it is worth spending a little more to get something useful.

Boring! All this time is spent during the DVD talking about the John Fisher technique, but not really showing you anything specific. Lots of great video shots of dogs romping about with their owners and shots of classes being conducted, all being voiced over about the ‘great john fisher technique’. Who cares! I didn’t order the video so that I could go look for a trainer who trains with this technique, I ordered it so that I could train my own dog. So little instructional information was given and the video was so boring, me and my dogs fell asleep watching it. What a waste!

Not everything I have read so far in this book was new to me, but it is an excellent book nonetheless. I’d highly recommend it to new riders. It is also an easy enough read that young people would also enjoy it. I certainly would have loved it as a child (of course I read the dictionary and the encyclopoedia, too. . .:>).

In my long history as an animal philanthropist (much to the dismay of my mother!), one of the most critical components of appropriate care is understanding the physiology, the mental processes and the inherent behavior of an animal, be it a gerbil, dog or hippopotmus–no, I never had one of these. This book presents all of that and more on horses. It is also written in an engaging style, which makes the information more interesting than it could have been.
